One of Oklahoma football’s brightest young stars earned a distinguished honor on Tuesday. Per the team’s official Twitter (also known as X) page, Sooners wide receiver Nic Anderson earned FWAA Freshman All-American honors.

Anderson came to Norman as a three-star receiver in 2022, according to 247Sports. West Orange High School’s Jayden Gibson ranked ahead of Anderson among the receivers signed to Oklahoma within that class.

The Sooners scored 41.7 points per game this season, the fourth-best mark in the FBS. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel starred under offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, throwing for 3,660 yards and 30 scores against six picks. Redshirt freshman Nic Anderson finished tied with fellow wideout Drake Stoops for the team lead in receiving touchdowns with ten. Anderson also only trailed Stoops for the team lead in receiving yards with 798.

Anderson’s coming out party came in mid-September on the road against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Anderson pulled a prime Randy Moss, taking three passes for 120 yards and three touchdowns. The Katy, Texas native again broke the receiving century mark in late October, catching five passes for 105 yards and two scores against the Central Florida Knights. Anderson snagged seven receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown in his team’s bowl game loss to the Arizona Wildcats. Former five-star recruit and future starting quarterback Jackson Arnold started the season finale for the Sooners, with Gabriel leaving the program via the transfer portal for the Oregon Ducks.
