The Whites have been heavily linked with a move for the Toffees defender this month, and it seems they’ve now made a formal loan offer.

According to a report from The Sun, the Toffees boss, Sean Dyche has given the green light for the centre-back to leave Goodison Park.

Daniel Farke wants to bolster the defence this month after Luke Ayling left the club to join Middlesbrough on loan. The Whites have been linked with a move for Japan defender Daiki Hashioka, but he seems to be joining Luton Town instead.

Godfrey, who is on £68k-per-week deal, has struggled for regular game time this season. The Toffees are looking to reduce their wage bill and help their case towards FFP rules, and they are ready to offload the 25-year-old this month.

Leeds are only looking to bring him on loan, but they have other targets as well including Liverpool defender Nat Phillips.

was linked with a move to Atalanta this month but the club felt he would be too expensive for them.

He needs to leave Goodison Park in order to play regularly and Leeds can provide him with opportunity. They are fourth in the Championship at the moment and are aiming to get back to the Premier League next season.

Godfrey is a quality defender who has loads of experience. He has struggled with injuries in recent times and has dropped down the pecking order, as a result. A move to Elland Road could be a blessing for him, although he is primarily a centre-back.

Farke should look to sign a new full-back, and while Godfrey can play as a right-back, the Whites should also check out other options. Nevertheless, it will be great if they can agree a deal for his signature in the final few days of the January window.
