Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton will undergo a medical this morning ahead of completing his £22.5million move to Crystal Palace.

The clubs agreed on an £18.5m fee with a further £4m in add-ons for the England Under-20 international on Tuesday morning and the 19-year old has travelled to London to complete proceedings before signing a five and half year deal.

Palace presented an improved bid after having an £18.5m offer rejected last week.

Blackburn also want to keep Wharton on loan but the 19-year-old is willing to leave now.

Wharton, who has been at the club since the age of six, signed a deal in December which will keep him at Blackburn until the end of the 2027-28 season.

Having made his senior debut back in August 2022, Wharton has gone on to make 51 senior appearances for the club, featuring in all but two of their Championship matches this season, returning two goals and three assists.

Wharton has also attracted the attention of several other Premier League clubs, including Everton, Newcastle and Tottenham.

Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has previously lumped praise on the midfielder, stating: ‘He can do things that nobody sees before. He can play under pressure, one touch, and has great vision.’

The Blackburn academy graduate, who made his debut for England’s U20 side in November against Italy, has also been described as the next best English prospect outside of the top flight by Blackburn’s director of football Gregg Broughton.
