The Tennessee Volunteers have been trying to compete in the SEC for years and always seem to come up short. With Texas and Oklahoma joining the conference, ending the season on top just became more difficult. The Volunteers got a huge win today when former LSU offensive tackle Lance Heard announced he was committing to the program.

Heard was the No. 51 overall prospect in the 2023 class and the No. 3 offensive tackle in the 2023 cycle. He played in 12 games for the Tigers in 2023 and was one of the top offensive linemen in the portal. The Volunteers needed some help on the offensive line due to players transferring out. Heard will likely become a starter right away, and he has three years of eligibility remaining. He is the seventh player the program has landed through the portal.

Tennessee gets the rough draw of having to play both Alabama and Georgia in the regular season. This is on top of games against Florida, Oklahoma, and NC State. Even with Nick Saban’s retirement, the Crimson Tide will not be a walk in the park. The Bulldogs will be out to retake the conference. This isn’t new for the Volunteers. In order to win the SEC, you have to beat the best.
