Most of the pundits outside of Detroit have talked about and studied the story of Matthew Stafford’s return to Ford Field. Stafford left Motown without a single postseason victory on his record, despite being the organization’s top overall pick in 2009. Stafford also failed to lead the team to many postseason appearances.
The last straw came when general manager Bob Quinn called a meeting with ownership to request a trade back to the Lions in 2021 following yet another unsuccessful rebuilding attempt.

Regretfully, the NFC opted to publish a graphic a few hours before the Lions vs. Rams game on national television. For his first game back at Ford Field while playing for a different club, the graphic showed fans embracing the 35-year-old veteran signal-caller in a warm manner. Of course, some will have happy memories of his 12-year tenure in Motown, including the comeback victories and heroic attempts to play despite injuries. Thoughts should be directed toward Dan Campbell, Jared Goff, and the Lions in Detroit’s first home playoff game in thirty years. Following the post, fans panned it on social media, questioning why Detroit would be so hospitable to a player who is attempting to ruin the Lions’ extraordinary season.

“You’re missing so many middle fingers,” wrote one supporter in a comment. It’s football here. Not ping pong. Somebody else said, “No, not at all. For Lions fans, this is a disgrace. The internet response from fans who don’t agree with the NFL’s sentimental story is shown here.
