ESPN revealed on Tuesday that the Carolina Panthers intend to appoint 32-year-old Brad Idzik, the wide receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as their new offensive coordinator.

Idzik will reunite with Dave Canales, the former offensive coordinator for the Buccaneers who was just hired head coach of the Panthers. Before coming on board with the Bucs in 2023, they previously collaborated with the Seattle Seahawks.

This season, Idzik’s Buccaneers team produced two receivers with 1,000 yards. Chris Godwin recorded 83 receptions for 1,024 yards and two touchdowns, while Mike Evans grabbed 79 passes for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Idzik would take over for former head coach Frank Reich’s offensive coordinator, Thomas Brown. Carolina under Reich and interim coach Chris Tabor concluded 2023 with a 2-15 record.

With 2023 No. 1 overall draft pick Bryce Young at quarterback, the Panthers were 31st in the NFL in scoring (13.9 points per game) and 32nd in total offense (265.3 yards per game).

Idzik spent four seasons as an assistant wide receivers coach (2019–20, 2022) and an offensive quality control/assistant quarterbacks coach (2021) with Pete Carroll’s Seattle coaching staff.
