With the two teams scheduled to play each other soon, it is obvious that Everton would gain if Hodgson were to lose his job at his beloved Crystal Palace. However, The Guardian has identified three reasons why former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper and former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui are unwilling to take over at Selhurst Park: “Steve Cooper, who was fired by Nottingham Forest in December, and the former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui have been mooted as potential replacements but are believed to be reluctant to take over with so little time to prepare for a run of fixtures that includes Chelsea at Selhurst Park next Monday night before a trip to face Everton and a home game against Burnley.”

However, if Palace fired Hodgson before their trip to Goodison Park, they would undoubtedly become preoccupied, which would benefit the hosts.
