In the 2024 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears are reportedly planning to choose quarterback prospect Caleb Williams with the first overall choice, according per NFL Insider Adam Schefter’s report on The Pat McAfee Show.

Although Schefter notes that it is generally accepted throughout the league that the Bears will trade for Justin Fields, he does not state that this is a given. Schefter continued, saying he doesn’t think the Bears will pass on Williams because they don’t think they like former quarterbacks Drake Maye of the North Carolina Tar Heels or Jayden Daniels of LSU Tigers enough.

Schefter made a crucial observation: Caleb Williams does not currently have an agent. In order for Williams to request to travel to Washington in a manner akin to that of Eli Manning or John Elway, Williams would need to have an agent.

When Caleb Williams initially entered the game, he was Spencer Rattler’s backup quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners. Williams entered the game with the Sooners trailing the Texas Longhorns 28–7 in the Red River Rivalry and orchestrated the biggest comeback in the rivalry’s history.

This was the first time Williams took significant snaps in collegiate football; he had only seen the field during garbage time before that. Before joining head coach Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans, Williams played signal caller for the Sooners until the end of the season.

Williams went on to burn up the field in 2022 at USC, throwing for 4,537 yards. He solidified his status as one of the best emerging quarterback prospects with 42 touchdowns to just 5 interceptions. Williams, a sophomore in 2022, took home the Heisman Trophy.
