After winning the Treble, the summer and winter transfer window has been absolutely horrible, with several additions that seemed like project-like acquisitions just not working out.

One such case is Marco Tilio, who signed with Melbourne City in the summer but is now back in Australia following a loan period that ended in January.

Gustaf Lagerbielke is another player that Celtic spent a lot of money on, although he hasn’t featured much this season and would have departed last month if it weren’t for Cameron Carter-Vickers’ injury.

Charlie Mulgrew, speaking to Sky Sports Football on March 02, 24 at 12:10 p.m., however, emphasized that signing those players is always a “risk” and that the strategy has been in place since the days of club icons Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama.

The former Bhoys great has urged patience with the guys who haven’t performed well thus far and expressed faith that they will eventually improve.

Although it has been made clear that Brendan Rodgers has been loud in his desire for the team to have higher caliber players, the club is currently run that way, which annoys the supporters.

Mulgrew stated, “That has been Celtic’s model for years.” You trace your lineage back to Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama.

They entered as potential athletes. Players that were just under £3 million. They enter and immediately integrate with the team. When you sign players for that kind of money, there is a risk involved.

“There is a risk if they decide not to go to the Premier League for £5–10 million and Celtic ends up having a chance to acquire them. These players have to go in January for this reason; it’s obvious that the gamble they took this year didn’t pay off.

“They haven’t brought in enough talented players.” They arrived to Celtic, but their performance in training has been lacking. The management has seen that they haven’t performed well in games. When you include these players, there is a danger.

Hopefully, a handful got off to a quick start. Weekly, Alistair Johnston replaces Juranovic on the field. He enters right away. However, you won’t sign seven, eight, or nine players and expect them to immediately become part of the squad. They do occasionally need to go on loan, and ideally they will be able to return and complete a task. Without a doubt, the window didn’t succeed.
