As of February 17, the Miami Dolphins are facing a significant challenge with their available cap space, which stands at negative $51.898 million, according to Over the Cap. This places them second worst in the NFL, just ahead of the New Orleans Saints in terms of cap space.

Given their precarious financial situation and with the new league year approaching in March, the Dolphins are under pressure to swiftly address their salary cap issues. One potential solution identified by uSTADIUM is to consider releasing linebacker Jerome Baker, who could be deemed a “cut candidate” as of February 14.

According to Over the Cap, the Dolphins have options regarding Baker’s contract. They could save $11.053 million by designating Baker as a post-June 1 release. Alternatively, if they choose to cut him before June 1, they could clear approximately $9.82 million of his $37.5 million contract.

These figures indicate that releasing Baker could provide the Dolphins with significant relief in terms of cap space, allowing them to better manage their financial obligations as they approach the new league year.
