Authorities reported that Vontae Davis, a former Miami Dolphins and NFL star, was discovered deceased within a mansion in Southwest Ranches on Monday. Davie Police, responsible for calls in the area, confirmed the finding of the 35-year-old’s body at a residence on Southwest 178th Avenue. Preliminary details indicated no suspicion of foul play.

Aerial footage displayed numerous officers around the expansive property, characterized by a lengthy driveway and spacious backyard pool. Property records revealed the mansion belonged to Adaline Davis, the grandmother of the ex-NFL player. The residence, boasting 5 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms across nearly 6,500 square feet, was last sold for approximately $3.9 million in 2018.

Davis was chosen by the Dolphins from the University of Illinois as the 25th overall pick in the 2009 Draft. After three years with Miami, he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, where he played for seven more seasons, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2014 and 2015.

Retiring in 2018 while with the Buffalo Bills, Davis was the younger brother of Vernon Davis, a two-time NFL Pro Bowl tight end. In a previous incident, he made headlines when arrested for DUI charges following a crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Hollywood, where images depicted him seemingly asleep by the roadside next to his wrecked Tesla.
