Cody Whitehair, who has been with the Bears the longest among all position players, is heading to a new destination: Las Vegas.

On Monday, the Raiders reached an agreement to sign him for a one-year contract valued at $2.5 million, according to a source. When Whitehair takes the field for the Raiders alongside their new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, it will mark the first time in his professional career that he will not be sporting the navy and orange colors of the Bears. Previously selected in the second round, Whitehair had been with the Bears from 2016 to 2023.

In February, the Bears released Whitehair instead of carrying a hefty $13.25 million salary cap hit. This move was anticipated by Whitehair, especially considering he had been benched during the previous season due to struggles with the accuracy of his snaps. Despite entering the 2023 season as the anticipated starting center, he only played 87 snaps in that position throughout the season. Ultimately, he ended up finishing the season as a backup guard, stepping in for most of the finale after Nate Davis suffered an injury.
