Ron Lynch, a renowned figure in Australian rugby league, has passed away at the age of 84. Known affectionately as ‘Thirsty,’ Lynch had a distinguished career representing teams such as Parramatta, City, Country, NSW, and the Australian national team.

Lynch, who battled a long-term illness, breathed his last in a Sydney hospital on Sunday, May 12. His career spanned from 1961 to 1973, during which he gained recognition primarily for his tenure with Parramatta. However, he also donned the jerseys of City, Country, and NSW.

With 12 appearances for the Australian national team, Lynch was a pivotal member of the squad during the 1967/68 Kangaroos tour. Known for his leadership both on and off the field, Lynch briefly served as Parramatta’s captain-coach in 1970.

In recognition of his immense contributions to the sport, Lynch was bestowed with Life Membership of the Parramatta Eels in 1970 and was later inducted into the Eels Hall of Fame in 2003
