*June 10, 2024, Auburn, AL* — Auburn University has announced that Derrick Nix, the Offensive Coordinator and Running Backs Coach for the Auburn Tigers, has terminated his contract with immediate effect. The decision comes amidst ongoing personal reasons that require Nix’s immediate and full attention.

In a statement released by the university, Athletic Director John Cohen expressed understanding and support for Nix’s decision. “Derrick Nix has been a valuable member of our coaching staff, and his contributions to the team have been significant. While we are saddened to see him go, we fully support his need to focus on personal matters,” Cohen said.

Nix, who joined the Tigers’ coaching staff in 2022, played a pivotal role in developing a dynamic and effective offensive strategy, significantly improving the team’s performance over the past seasons. His leadership and expertise in coaching the running backs have been instrumental in the success of several key players.

Head Coach Hugh Freeze also commented on Nix’s departure, stating, “Derrick’s impact on our program has been profound. He is a dedicated coach and mentor to our players, and his absence will be deeply felt. We wish him all the best and hope to see him back in the coaching arena soon.”

The search for a replacement will begin immediately, with the university aiming to fill the position ahead of the upcoming season. In the interim, assistant coaches will take on additional responsibilities to ensure continuity in training and preparation.
