Arlington, TX – June 11, 2024 – The Texas Rangers announced today that manager Bruce Bochy has terminated his contract effective immediately due to ongoing health concerns. Bochy, who joined the Rangers in 2022, has been a pivotal figure in the team’s development over the past two seasons.

In a statement released by the team, Bochy expressed his regret at having to step down but emphasized the necessity of prioritizing his health. “It’s with a heavy heart that I announce my departure from the Texas Rangers. After extensive consultation with my doctors, it has become clear that stepping away from my managerial duties is essential for my well-being,” Bochy said.

The Rangers’ front office has expressed their support for Bochy’s decision, highlighting his significant contributions to the team. “Bruce has been an incredible leader and mentor to our players and staff. While we are saddened by his departure, we fully support his decision to focus on his health,” said Rangers General Manager Chris Young.

Bochy, a three-time World Series champion with the San Francisco Giants, brought a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the Rangers. Under his guidance, the team saw marked improvements in their performance, culminating in a competitive 2023 season.

The Rangers will begin the search for a new manager immediately, with bench coach Donnie Ecker stepping in as interim manager. The organization is optimistic about finding a leader who can build on Bochy’s foundation and continue to drive the team towards success.
