Journalist Ben Jacobs recently reported that Leeds United are interested in signing Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist on loan this summer.

The 20-year-old made his debut for Chelsea’s first team this season and has since attracted attention from several Championship clubs.

According to Jacobs, Blackburn Rovers and Preston are also in the running for Gilchrist, with Leeds pursuing a season-long loan deal.

In a recent discussion on the Just Joe Football Show, Jacobs provided more details on the potential transfer of Gilchrist to the EFL, specifically mentioning Leeds.

He explained Chelsea’s likely strategy, stating: “The plan is to loan him out to a Championship club, which aligns with both the club’s and the player’s intentions. It’s improbable Chelsea will change their stance, given his position. The only variable is the timing, as Chelsea might prefer him to participate in pre-season first. I expect he’ll join a Championship club by late July or early August. Leeds, Preston, and Blackburn have all shown formal interest.

“Gilchrist would be amenable to a move to Leeds despite the rivalry with Chelsea. He respects Leeds and is eager to help them push for promotion.”

Adding Gilchrist would bolster Leeds’ squad depth for next season. With the departures of Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts following their loan spells, Gilchrist’s versatility—capable of playing both right-back and center-back—would be highly beneficial. While he may not yet be technically ready to start as right-back, he would provide valuable cover for multiple positions.
