**Austin, TX** – In a surprising development, Pete Kwiatkowski, the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the Texas Longhorns, has terminated his contract with immediate effect. The decision, announced on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, has been attributed to personal reasons.

Kwiatkowski, who joined the Longhorns’ coaching staff in January 2021, played a crucial role in revitalizing the team’s defense. His departure comes at a critical juncture as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

“I want to thank the University of Texas, the Longhorns staff, and most importantly, the players, for an incredible three years,” Kwiatkowski said in a statement. “This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career, but I need to step away to address personal matters that require my immediate attention.”

Head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed his support for Kwiatkowski’s decision, acknowledging his significant contributions to the program. “Pete has been an invaluable member of our coaching staff, and we are grateful for his dedication and hard work,” Sarkisian said. “We fully support his decision and wish him all the best as he focuses on his personal matters.”

Kwiatkowski’s tenure with the Longhorns saw marked improvements in the team’s defensive performance, with significant gains in both player development and strategic execution. His departure leaves a gap in the coaching staff that the university will need to fill promptly to maintain the momentum built over the past few seasons.

The Texas Longhorns are expected to initiate an expedited search for a new defensive coordinator. In the interim, defensive line coach Bo Davis will assume the responsibilities of the defensive coordinator to ensure continuity.

Fans and players alike have expressed their gratitude towards Kwiatkowski for his dedication and the positive impact he had on the team. As the Longhorns look ahead to the new season, the focus will be on finding a suitable replacement who can build on Kwiatkowski’s legacy and drive the team towards continued success.
