Leicester Tigers head coach Dan McKellar has terminated his contract with the club after just one season. This decision, described as mutual, follows a disappointing campaign where Leicester finished eighth in the Premiership and were knocked out in the last 16 of the Champions Cup by Leinster. McKellar, who joined Leicester in July 2023, had previously been the assistant head coach for the Australian national team【6†source】【7†source】.

In response to McKellar’s departure, Leicester Tigers have appointed Michael Cheika as their new head coach. Cheika, a highly experienced coach, has led teams like Leinster to the Heineken Cup title in 2009 and the Waratahs to Super Rugby victory in 2014. He also coached Australia to the 2015 Rugby World Cup final and guided Argentina to a fourth-place finish in the 2023 Rugby World Cup【7†source】【8†source】.

Cheika has expressed his excitement about the opportunity and aims to bring his best level of coaching to the Tigers. He will begin his tenure immediately, joining the team for pre-season training starting July 1【8†source】.
