Norman, OK – The University of Oklahoma community is in mourning following the sad news that former OU Sooners head coach, Dennis “Denny” Thompson, has passed away. Thompson, who led the team to several memorable victories, died peacefully at his home on Monday at the age of 78.

Thompson, affectionately known as “Coach Denny,” served as the head coach of the OU Sooners football team from 1992 to 1998. During his tenure, he was known for his exceptional leadership, strategic acumen, and dedication to his players. Under his guidance, the Sooners won three conference championships and made multiple bowl game appearances, cementing his legacy in the annals of OU football history.

University President Joseph Harroz Jr. released a statement expressing the university’s deep sorrow: “Coach Denny Thompson was more than a coach; he was a mentor, a leader, and a cherished member of the OU family.
