Two Millwall FC supporters who used “deeply offensive” gestures during a game against Leicester City earlier this year were found guilty of tragic chanting. At Millwall’s home ground in southeast London, The Den, father and son Peter and Freddie Brooks were captured on camera pointing at a helicopter and making helicopter gestures at Leicester supporters before giggling. According to the Met police, it was “clearly” a reference to the 2018 helicopter accident outside Leicester’s King Power Stadium, which claimed the lives of four people, including the club’s former owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. When police received a report about the clip from Leicester City supporters, Met officers located the two guys and took them out of the Millwall stadium. The Met released a statement saying, “Millwall FC also assisted officers in identifying the pair.”“After being dismissed Freddie Brooks, 18, of Rolls Road, Bermondsey, was ordered to pay £85 in costs and a victim surcharge of £26. He was also granted a 12-month conditional release. Peter Brooks, 48, his father, was fined £266 and ordered to pay £106 victim surcharge in addition to £85 in costs. He lived at the same address. Additionally, a three-year Football Banning order was given to both men.The individuals were found guilty in accordance with recently enacted laws aganst “tragedy chanting.” To put a stop to football supporters making fun of disasters like the Hillsborough disaster, the Munich air disaster, the Bradford Fire, and Emiliano Sala’s death, stricter laws were implemented. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has pledged to use the threat of a game ban as leverage to prevent fans from acting in an inappropriate manner.
